Why Taking a Vacation Is Important for Mental Health

Recently, I travelled to Sikkim to explore North Sikkim and witness the beauty of the snow-clad mountains. Honestly, I feel it was one of the best decisions I’ve made this year after my visit to Agra to witness the elegance and beauty of Taj Mahal.

Although it was an unexpected expense, I do not regret it even for a moment. Driven by the desire to experience snowfall and be surrounded by endless greenery, my family and I set out on this journey. The roads were rough and exhausting. Every part of my body felt the bumps and rocky paths. Yet, all the discomfort faded away whenever I saw the countless waterfalls flowing beside the roads. Some were tiny streams, while others were powerful falls cascading down the mountains.

The people living there are truly fortunate to wake up every day to such pure air and crystal clear water. On one side of the road stood giant rocks and dense forests, and on the other side were majestic mountains that looked like giants standing together. From a distance, the waterfalls appeared delicate and magical against the massive landscape.

When we finally reached our hotel, the view of the snow mountains was breathtaking. And the most unforgettable moment came when we visited the snowy mountains. We experienced snowfall for the first time. It was thrilling, peaceful, and deeply beautiful all at once.

That trip made me realise something important. Not just this journey, but every time I travel, I discover a new part of myself. Travelling has always added something meaningful to my personality and character. It has made me more understanding, more grateful, and more connected with myself. Somewhere along the way, I healed from pain, found answers to unanswered questions, and learned a little more about life. Therefore, the money spent on travelling never truly feels “spent.” Instead, it returns as peace of mind, emotional healing, happiness, self-awareness, and unforgettable memories.

In today’s world, people are slowly losing empathy, kindness, and patience. Many no longer take the time to listen, care, or understand others. People are constantly trapped in extremes- always working or overthinking, always rushing or emotionally disconnected. In the process, they forget how to live.

That is why vacations and travelling have become so important today. People need moments to pause and reconnect with nature, with others, and with themselves. Nature has a calming way of teaching us patience and peace. Watching rivers flow, flowers bloom, mountains stand tall, and life grow quietly around us reminds us that not everything needs to happen in a rush. Travelling with loved ones creates memories that stay forever. And travelling alone teaches us to connect with strangers, listen to different stories, and understand lives beyond our own. Sometimes, all we truly need is to step away from our routines and spend a little time simply being present.

Nature teaches us an important truth: Life does not stop if we pause for a while. What is meant to stay will stay, and what is meant to leave will eventually go.

Travelling today is no longer just a luxury; it has become essential for emotional well-being. It reminds people how privileged they are, how beautiful life can be beyond stress and fear, and how much peace exists outside the noise of everyday life.
